Patience, or Bunthorne's Bride
By Sir W S Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan
June 2026
Patience is a sparkling, charming and very witty comic opera by the masters of satire, Gilbert & Sullivan, poking fun at the aesthetic movement in late 19th century England. Known as “art for art’s sake”, the movement celebrated aesthetic values in literature, fine arts and decorative arts over moral and social concerns. Popular literary figures and painters of the time included Morris, Swinburne, Rossetti, Whistler and of course Oscar Wilde.
